Grammar, Writing, and Spelling

Though writing skills are important in every subject, we place special emphasis on learning writing as a skill during our language arts time. Throughout the year we complete the following types of writing projects: personal narrative, friendly letter, business letter, persuasive, expository, descriptive, and poetry. The length of each writing project varies but all are introduced and graded with the 6+ Trait Writing assessment.

During grammar we practice with nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, prepositions, punctuation, conjunctions, and types of sentences.  We will also be utilizing the Wordly Wise 3000 vocabulary program to increase student understanding of a wider variety of words.  Spelling practice will be encouraged through the use of Words Their Way workbooks and online practice with Spelling City.
