Hello!  I am Ryan Gutsch, band director here at Owen-Withee School District.  I first went to Northcentral Technical College and graduated in 2002 with an Associate Degree in Computer Systems/Analysis.  After working for a year, I decided that music needed to be my career because I loved it so much.  I went to University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and graduated in 2007 with a BFA in Instrumental Music Education.  I worked at Oconto Falls from 2007-2009 and at Turtle Lake from 2009-2013 before I made the move to Owen-Withee in 2013.

Along with my band experience, I have been active in the competitive marching band circuit in Wisconsin.  I have been a percussion instructor at Marathon, Merrill, D.C. Everest, and Germantown, marching/maneuvering instructor at Marathon, and most recently percussion arranger for Fond du Lac and the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse.  Through my instruction, I have received 3 State Percussion Championships and 2 State Band Championships.

I have also been judging in the WSMA circuit since 2009 and have made a judging appearance with the Small Drum & Bugle Corps Association in 2009. I am now a Master Adjudicator with WSMA.

I am currently a member of the Wisconsin Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society (PAS), and a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and National Band Association (NBA).

Also in August of 2011, I finished composing a new musical called "Sweet Genevieve" with story and lyrics by Sharon Balts.  The premiere performance was with the Barron Spotlighters in 2011.

In my free time, I enjoy video games, golf, and soccer.  I am a certified soccer referee and ref games for the WIAA.  I am also the athletic director and tech coordinator here at the Owen-Withee School District.

I am married to Cynthia, who is a piano teacher in town and who also accompanies the O-W Choir and the Thorp Choir.  We also have a son, August, who was born in January of 2016 and a daughter, Nora, who was born in January of 2020.
