The students performed in twenty-six events, and twenty five of the students received First ratings in twelve events. Senior Valerie Niemi received special recognition as an "Exemplary Soloist" on her music theater solo. This is the third time Valerie has received this award. The O-W Polka Band extended it streak of consecutive state first ratings to seven years.

In order to qualify for State, the students had to earn a "Starred First", the highest possible rating in class A at the District Solo and Ensemble Festival, which was held at Loyal on February 18.

Art Students "Egg-static" About Project
Art Students "Egg-static" About Project

The Introductory Art students are learning about the Art of Ukrainian egg making and its history. Ukrainian Eggs are made using a wax-resist process. Each student designed three to four eggs, and each egg follows a different pattern. All of the students designed chicken eggs and some took the time to do a goose egg! The egg patterns are very rich in color; this teaches the students the correct order in which the dyes need to be used which is light to dark. Ukrainian eggs were created as a celebration of spring! It appeared that the Introductory Art Students really enjoyed this Folk Art unit! Ask one of them to explain the egg making process to you…. It is very interesting!
